The Autism Reality Experience offers an innovative and immersive training opportunity for neurotypical individuals to step into the neurodiverse world. Through hands-on experiences, participants gain insight into the sensory processing challenges encountered by individuals on the autism spectrum. A unique opportunity to foster understanding, inclusivity and most importantly empathy.

How eye opening the training was for the staff team at Lonnen.

Everyone who attended has fed back that they now feel they have further insight to how life may be experienced for the people we support and that it will enable them to try and change their approach going forward.

We have also recommended that other services within Exemplar that support autistic people complete this training.

Exemplar Health Care

One of the most valuable trainings I have received. Now I can better understand autistic individuals and respect their perspective.

It was a very insightful and powerful experience. It gave me a deeper understanding of how people with autism may perceive the world and the challenges they face. I found it eye-opening and very useful for my role.

It gave me a huge insight to the depth of frustration things we here look causes and how each individual handle different things.

It was a great way to increase awareness and understanding of how people with Autism may experience the world around them. It was not at all what I was expecting - I feel that this experience was very useful.

I learned so much about the real autism experience. I applied the experience to a lot of behaviours I have seen in service users and it made me more aware of their needs and how much I underestimated the experience.

Today training was very interesting. I took away a lot of information that I can apply to my day to day life to hopefully make things easier for my son.

This has helped me understand my child's needs more on how to support him. It might be hard for me but its even harder on him

I really enjoyed the experience, it was overwhelming in a way that helped me understand some of the issues my daughter faces on a daily basis. The presentation also gave me the means to pinpoint what particularly her issues could be.

The ARE has given me valuable insight to some of the sensory experiences and challenges faced by autistic people. I will take this experience forward in my work with autistic children.

The course gave an amazing understanding and l have learned so much today.

I now have some feedback from the survey we sent out.

100% of people who responded found it valuable and over 70% plan on doing something differently as a result.

Some of the specific feedback:

Fantastic course. Really enjoyed the experience on the bus and found the discussion afterwards very informative.

Mind altering experience.

An incredibly mind blowing experience.

This experience was great to really get a better understanding of what a person with Autism may go through everyday. It also highlighted to me things I never knew affected people with Autism.

Eye opening.

My child is autistic, so part of the reason I took part was to better understand what’s going on for him, but I was also really keen to understand what goes on for autistic people at work and in my communities. This experience has definitely raised my awareness, and hopefully I can approach people in general, autistic and not autistic, with more empathy for what they might need.

Great experience, really got a sense of how autistic individuals struggle in daily tasks.

Group feedback from The Coventry

I found that the course gave a great insight into the obstacles and difficulties someone with autism faces on a daily basis. While also giving advice and guidance on how to best support
