The Autism Reality Experience offers an innovative and immersive training opportunity for neurotypical individuals to step into the neurodiverse world. Through hands-on experiences, participants gain insight into the sensory processing challenges encountered by individuals on the autism spectrum. A unique opportunity to foster understanding, inclusivity and most importantly empathy.

I found the whole experience overwhelming. It was so informative and I learnt lots. Having an autistic daughter I felt quite upset realising how she feels, why she does the things she does and how things I do or don't do impact that! I thought I had a reasonable knowledge of neuro diversity but I now know there is so much I didn't know! I am determined to take this back to my ward and make changes for the better for neuro diverse patients, their parents and staff.

Karen George

An insightful and useful understanding of autism and what people on the autism spectrum go through

Harriet Ellis

Really insightful experience. Billy was very knowledgeable and friendly. So glad that I did this experience as it gave me an insight into the life of someone living with autism. It increases levels of empathy in order for me to care for patients with empathy in an improved way.

Hayley Cook

I think it was insightful but wonder how the experience is established e.g. what research was done to establish that, that is the true experience of someone with autism

Fiona Price

Very overstimulating but an eye opening experience.

Maizie Townshend

Very overstimulating but insightful!

Tadiwa Cheuka

Interesting experience which helped me to improve my knowledge

Alanna Newton

Definitely gave an understanding and perspective of how Autism affects individuals.

Sue Ward

I found it really interesting, and eye opening after my session on the bus, as it really showed me how overstimulating hospitals can be. It has highlighted areas to me that I can take into practice to hopefully reduce these effects for children and young people with autism. I found the debrief after essential. Especially hearing how my experience was similar, or differed from others regarding our senses.

Rachel Masters

This is a good session and help me to understand better regarding autism

Donghong Langley

ARE for Hospitals

In associtaion with

Exciting news from West Suffolk Hospital! The Hospital version of the ARE was collaboratively developed with their exceptional team. Launched in November 2025, this release marked a pivotal moment in autism training within a hospital setting.

Hospitalisation can be a daunting experience for any family, especially for the neurodiverse community. The training, starting from the car park to admission, emphasises the critical impact of the pre-arrival journey on the entire hospital experience. The ARE's innovative approach immerses individuals in the perspective of autistic individuals, shedding light on necessary adjustments for proper and safe support.

Empathy plays a key role in gaining insights for meaningful change. By understanding the challenges posed by the environment and how situations or actions can trigger behavioural issues, we pave the way for a more inclusive and supportive hospital environment.

The Hospital version is ideal for:

  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Consultants
  • Health care professionals
  • Ambulance service
  • Receptionists
  • Cleaners
  • Any organisation supporting hospitals
  • 111 services
  • 999 services
